Program overview

Zero litter towards zero waste fieldwork incursion is a Stage 4 program that addresses Water in the world and geographical tools content.

Students will engage with concepts of litter, waste, plastic pollution and macro and micro plastics. They will connect hydrological and geomorphic processes and the urban water cycle with marine debris. Students will have the opportunity to examine and analyse hygienically prepared microplastics collected from within the Georges River catchment. They will learn about organisations that are working towards zero litter and zero waste and be inspired by new innovations that young people are developing to address global marine debris. Students will conduct a litter survey in their school ground and analyse the data against programs that address litter and waste to assess the effectiveness of such projects.

This 2 hour incursion provides students with authentic fieldwork experiences that incorporate geographical tools including maps, fieldwork, data and graphs and spatial technologies.

Teacher information

Cost 2026

NSW Department of Education schools $12 per student

Non-government schools $18 per student

The total cost of the program will be based on the number of students confirmed at least 3 working days before your program.

If the number of students is not confirmed by this time, the total cost will be calculated using the number of students listed on the original booking form or the actual number of students who attend, whichever is greater.

An Interschool Journal request or sales order will then be prepared and sent to your school for payment.

Student numbers

2 sessions per day

Maximum 2 classes per session with up to 30 students per class.

Location information

Preparation

Set up – please meet the Georges River EEC staff member/s up to 1 hour before first session.

Learning space – please provide an indoor classroom with presentation display capability. Outdoor areas will be used throughout the program.

Program length – 2 hours

For medical or special needs notify staff prior to program.

Extreme or wet weather

Program may be modified, postponed or cancelled due to predicted extreme temperatures, bush fire danger, heavy rainfall, high winds or dust storms.

Cancellation policy

Cancellation or major changes to bookings will incur the following cancellation fees:

  • within 30 days of excursion or incursion date - $600 administration fee charged
  • within 7 days of excursion/incursion date - total fee charged based on confirmed student numbers.
  • Weather or fire danger cancellation – $0
