Overview

The Zero litter in Georges River learning resource addresses Stage 4 Water in the world content area. The teaching and learning activities provided are designed to meet Geography 7–10 Syllabus (2024) outcomes, content and geographical skills and tools. The sequence can be incorporated into your school Water in the world scope and sequence. Learning time is approximately 210 hours with additional time required for student assessment. Learning intentions and success criteria have been suggested but should be adapted to meet the needs of your students.

This unit has been developed to support the Georges Riverkeeper Zero Litter in Georges River project. This project aims to reduce rubbish entering the river through prevention, clean-ups, and community awareness.

The learning sequence contains:

• 3 lessons
• fieldwork advice
• an assessment task with marking criteria.

Students must undertake 10 hours of fieldwork in Stage 4 Geography. The Georges River Environmental Education Centre offers full day fieldwork excursions (4.5 hours) and part day incursions (2 hours). Fieldwork is available to support this learning resource.
