Program overview
Water environments full day adventure is a Stage 1 HSIE Geography full day incursion for year 1 and 2 students.
This hands-on experience invites students to discover the natural and human features of water environments near your school. Students observe the plants and animals that live in and around their local creek, river, pond or wetland. Experiential learning to build a sense of belonging and fostering pride in caring for special places close to home. Students will learn how water environments have long been cared for and valued by Aboriginal peoples, who maintain deep cultural, spiritual and ongoing connections to Country and water.
Through nature-based activities such as water environment sensory sit-spots, wildlife spotting, aquatic mini-beast investigations and team challenges, students will build a deeper connection to their environment and experience the wellbeing benefits of time outdoors. Together, they will explore simple actions we can take to care for our waterways and protect the special places we enjoy. Students are encouraged to bring a healthy litter free lunch to enjoy a picnic lunch with their friends.
This program is best spent in a water environment close to school. We can support the organisation of this experience including walking routes and risk assessments. Don't have a water way close to school? Go to our excursion page to visit our sites.
Connect with our Zero litter in the Georges River learning resources and engage in active citizenship.
