Experience the living world at our centre beside the Georges River.
Join us as we go on nature walk to spark multisensory observations. Use binoculars and magnifying glasses to enhance visual observation and play games with blind folds to experience smells, sounds, and textures. Explore the natural surroundings to discover native plants and learn how Aboriginal Peoples use Knowledges of the characteristics of plants to survive. Together we will explore uses of the bark, leaves, flowers and seeds from paperbarks, eucalyptus trees, wattles, casuarinas and other native species and play music with our class set of authentically made clapsticks.
Our centre is a mini zoo! Students will meet different native species including lizards, snakes, frogs, turtles and super cool invertebrates. With safe animal handling procedures students can touch some of our animals. This multisensory experience enhances observations in understanding how scientists group animals based on their characteristics. Students will witness feeding time to identify what animals eat and the different ways they eat. They will see animal movement and identify the tracks they make and learn that Aboriginal Peoples use animal tracks and signs to find animals. Games to consolidate learning completes our day.
Maximum four classes per day.
