About Georges River Environmental Education Centre
Georges River Environmental Education Centre (EEC) is a specialist NSW Department of Education school delivering engaging, high-impact environmental education programs for primary and secondary schools. We offer curriculum-aligned school excursions, incursions, high potential and gifted education (HPGE) programs, and teacher professional learning, supporting NSW public and non-government schools from Kindergarten to Year 12.
Our programs are designed and delivered by qualified and approved NSW Department of Education teachers with extensive experience in engaging students in outdoor environments. We analyse NESA syllabus outcomes and focus content areas to create hands-on, authentic, meaningful and memorable learning experiences. We conduct our learning programs outdoors to embrace dynamic spaces and impactful affordances. We explore bushland, parklands, waterways, school grounds and urban environments.
We make learning fun and planning easy for teachers, with clear links to the NSW syllabus in science, geography, HSIE, creative arts and sustainability. We use best practice pedagogy, including explicit teaching strategies, to ensure learning is purposeful, inclusive and aligned with classroom outcomes. This approach supports teachers in delivering measurable learning outcomes and meaningful curriculum connections.
Each year, thousands of students participate in our environmental and sustainability excursions across Sydney, making our centre a trusted partner for teachers seeking high-quality, curriculum-linked learning beyond the classroom.

Our location
Georges River EEC is located in South Western Sydney on the banks of the Chipping Norton Lake. Its location provides access to walking trails through expansive parklands, Cumberland Plain bushland remnants, riverside lookouts, and a nearby beach area popular for picnics and fishing. The site provide extensive learning opportunities for investigating local ecosystems, spotting native animals, fishing or diving into place-based learning to inspire curiosity, confidence and a deep appreciation for Country.
A visit to our centre provides students with engaging up-close animal encounters, where they can safely observe and interact with native species while learning about their features, habitats and adaptations. Interacting with animals elicits winder with the natural world while building empathy, responsibility and respect for living things. This encourages positive attitudes toward environmental conservation and sustainability.
We also offer programs across south-west Sydney to align learning to place. Place based programs are offered in national parks, bushland reserves, waterways, mangrove forests, sandstone geology environments, Cumberland plain woodland, urban environments and school grounds.
