Landscapes and landforms

Geography

Students will spend the day along the Georges River exploring Sydney’s sandstone country through hands-on geographical inquiry. Using geographical tools such as field sketches, mapping, data collection and multisensory observations, they will investigate the features of river valleys, sandstone landforms, and surrounding bushland.

Students will learn about geomorphic processes, weathering, erosion, deposition through doing and recreate how the Georges River landscape and Sydney’s coastal environments have been shaped using natural materials. Identification charts will be used to explore the biodiversity of remnant bushland and consider the environmental, recreational, cultural, and economic value of these natural areas.

A key element of the day is learning from Aboriginal knowledge and practices, deepening students’ understanding of how Dharawal and Dharug Peoples care for Country along the river.

Student will engage in observation, collection and recording data and survey fieldwork techniques and use the following instruments:

Students will spend time enjoying the river as we enjoy a picnic lunch in a scenic location and use hook free handlines to ‘go fishing’.
