Waste warriors

HSIE geography

We all have a responsibility to care for our environment and reducing our waste is an easy place to start. In this full day incursion students will be inspired to become waste warriors and join the zero litter challenge. They will be introduced to the concepts of waste through stories, games, art and self reflection to rethink, reduce and recycle. A litter audit will be conducted and practical steps to manage school waste will be considered using the waste heirachy pyramid.

Students will be introduced to the Georges Riverkeeper, an organisation that advocates for and protects the Georges River. They want zero litter in the Georges River. To this end, they educate the community on waste and organise volunteer clean up days to remove waste pollution from the river.

Using iPads students will create a multimodal text campaign to persuade the school community to strive for zero litter at home, in school and in every day.

Connect with our Zero litter in the Georges River project to engage in active citizenship.
