Stage 2 HSIE Geography | Waste warriors incursion

Georges River EEC

Program overview

Waste warriors incursion is a Stage 2 HSIE Geography incursion program to investigate the issue of waste and find solutions.

We all have a responsibility to care for our environment and reducing our litter is an easy place to start. In this 2 hour incursion students will be inspired to become waste warriors and join the zero litter challenge. They will be introduced to the concepts of waste through stories, games, art and self reflection to rethink, reduce and recycle. A litter audit will be conducted and practical steps to manage school waste will be considered using the waste hierarchy pyramid.

Students will be introduced to the Georges Riverkeeper, an organisation that advocates for and protects the Georges River. They want zero litter in the Georges River. To this end, they educate the community on waste and organise volunteer clean up days to remove waste pollution from the river.

Students are encouraged to create a campaign to persuade the school community to strive for zero litter at home, in school and in every day.

Connect with our Zero litter in the Georges River learning resources to engage in active citizenship.
